The Journey to Paperless Health Information Management

Potholes are one thing not uncommon about Kampala's city streets and the same could easily be said of the journey to paperless health information management. In a drive to improve health care service delivery, The Ministry of Health Uganda and supporting partners UNICEF, WHO funded by DFID have taken on the challenge with an initiative called mTrac.
This journey involves equipping Districts with computers and internet data and training their Health Teams to manage an online dashboard that aggregates weekly reports sent by Health facility Workers, Community Health Workers and Community members by SMS previously handed to the district after great distances travelled and expense incurred
My proudest moments have been seeing community health workers in Village Health Teams of various ages and backgrounds get excited about learning a new function for their personal phones - positively impacting the health of their families and neighbors.
